Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Pickleballer collects, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We have written it in plain language. Where a term is defined in our Terms of Service, the same meaning applies here.

Who we are

Pickleballer is a mental-performance training app for pickleball, operated by Boost Innovation (“Boost Innovation,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This is a v1 product, an early release with a deliberately small feature set. Boost Innovation is the data controller for the personal information described below. Our jurisdictional baseline is Canada (PIPEDA), and we have designed our practices to align with the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). You can reach our privacy contact at info@boostinnovation.ca.

Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app and to choose age-appropriate training content. Two categories below are treated as sensitive and are minimized accordingly: your age information and your health/readiness answers.

Account and identity

  • Email address: used for authentication and, if you opt in, our launch list.
  • Display name: shown in the app and on your own progress views.

Age information (sensitive)

  • Age band: the broad age range you select. This is the only age information we collect, and we use it solely to choose age-appropriate health and warm-up content. We do not ask for or store your date of birth.

Abuse-prevention signal

  • Hashed IP address: when you join the launch list or sign in, we store a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (never the raw address) purely to rate-limit abuse. It cannot be reversed to identify your address.

Health and readiness (sensitive)

  • Self-reported activity level: how active you currently are.
  • PAR-Q-style readiness acknowledgment: a small set of yes/no physical-activity readiness questions. We store your answers (yes/no) so we can show appropriate guidance and disclaimers; we do not store free-text medical detail.

Gameplay and product data

  • Daily Pickle activity: your attempts, scores, Resets, and streak.
  • DUPR id / rating (optional): if you choose to add it. DUPR is referenced nominatively only; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by DUPR.

Personal insights (optional)

  • Behavioral analytics: only if you turn on Personal Insights in Settings, we record first-party events about how you play — for example which reads you make and how long you take to decide — so we can show you your own progress over time. This is first-party only: no third parties, no advertising, no cross-app tracking. It is off by default and you can turn it off at any time, which stops new collection.

Consent records

  • Consent flags and timestamps: a record of the consents you give (for example, agreeing to the Terms, the health disclaimer, optional personal insights, and any optional email list) and when you gave or withdrew them.

How we use your data

  • To provide, secure, and operate the app and your account.
  • To select age-appropriate health and warm-up content by age band only. This is content selection, not personalized medical advice.
  • To track your own progress (attempts, scores, Resets, streak).
  • To send service and account messages, and launch-list email if you opted in.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for behavioral advertising or ad targeting.

Legal basis and consent

We rely on your consent and on the necessity of processing to provide a service you have requested. We collect explicit consent at signup and record it with timestamps. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us; withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.

Sensitive data

We treat your age/date of birth and your health and readiness answers as sensitive personal information. We collect the minimum necessary, use them only to select age-band-appropriate content and to present the right safety disclaimers, and we never use them for profiling, advertising, or any purpose beyond age-band content selection.

Leaderboards and the public seasonal ladder

Inside the app you can join a friend pod. Your pod board, including the Top Baller standing, is visible only to members of that pod. There is also an optional public seasonal Top Baller ladder. It is off by default. You only appear on it if you explicitly choose to join, with a separate consent step. If you join, other players see your display name only next to your Top Baller score and kitchen streak. We never show your email, your precise location, or any other personal detail on the public ladder. You can leave the public ladder at any time from the Pod screen, which removes your entries, and the ladder resets at the end of each monthly season. Choose a display name that does not reveal personal information if you plan to join.

Your rights

You can view, export, and delete your data directly from Settings in the app. This includes the right to access your information, receive a portable export, correct inaccuracies, and delete your account and associated data. Deleting your account triggers removal of your personal data, subject to limited records we must keep for legal or security reasons.

Our practices are designed to align with the GDPR, PIPEDA, and CCPA/CPRA, and we honor verifiable data-subject access requests (DSARs). If you cannot resolve a request in-app, contact info@boostinnovation.ca. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Minors

Pickleballer is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies

In v1 we use only essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party analytics cookies or advertising/tracking cookies.

Third-party processors

We rely on a small set of vendors who process data on our behalf, under contract:

  • Supabase: database and authentication.
  • Resend: transactional and launch-list email.
  • Stripe: payment processing. Card details go to Stripe directly; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Vercel: application hosting and delivery.

Security

We protect your data with database row-level security, encryption in transit, and least-privilege access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to limit who and what can reach your information.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete my account), your profile and associated data are removed promptly through a cascading delete, subject only to limited records we must keep briefly for security or legal reasons. Specifically:

  • Account, gameplay and consent records: kept while your account is active; deleted when you delete your account.
  • Behavioral analytics events (if you enabled Personal Insights): retained for up to 24 months, then aggregated and purged; deleted immediately with your account.
  • Launch-list signups: an unconfirmed signup is purged if it is not confirmed within 30 days; a confirmed subscriber is kept until they unsubscribe.
  • Hashed-IP rate-limit counters: short-lived, retained only for the abuse window (minutes) before they reset.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
